DTN WEEKLY ROUND UP: The bulk of trade developed on Friday afternoon
last week (much of it after the Mandatory cutoff time). Southern
live deals were marked at mostly $186, $1 higher than the prior
week's weighted averages. Northern dress business was at mostly
$296, $2 higher than the previous week's weighted averages.
According to Thursday's Daily Direct Slaughter Cattle Negotiated
Purchase Summary reports, weekly accumulated totals were as follows,
(the prior week's weighted averages are listed in parentheses). KS
$185.73 ($184.83); NE $No Test($293.60); TX $186.00($184.81); IA
$300.00 ($293.33); CO not available due to confidentiality. Due to
the late Friday trade weighted average prices are not necessarily
true to what they will be when summaries are released later this
morning, especially in the North.
The Friday Afternoon Daily Direct Slaughter Cattle report lists
week-to-date trade volume totals as: KS 5,132; NE 3,222; TX 4,508,
IA 4,353; CO NA due to confidentiality. Again, due to the late trade
thee totals will likely be larger when summary reports are released.
Friday's slaughter totaled 108,000 head, 8,000 below the prior week,
and 3,000 less than a year ago. Saturday's kill was estimated at
12,000 head, bringing the weekly total to 611,000 head, 1,000 under
the previous week, and down 16,000 from 2023. The weekly average for
boxed beef cutouts and boxed beef cuts: choice $300.09(+1.10),
select $284.93(+0.45), with an average choice select spread of
$15.16(+0.65), and a total load count including cuts, trimmings, and
grinds of 679(+18), (Changes from the prior week are listed in
parentheses).
For the week ending September 28, 2024, Imported Beef Passed for
Entry in the U.S. totaled 50,398, 101.79% of the previous week and
103.97% of the 4-week average.
DTN MORNING COMMENTS: It looks to be a typically quiet Monday with
bids and asking prices not established. As both packers and producers
are busy preparing for the week ahead. Significant trade volume will
likely be delayed until the second half of the week. Beef cutouts are
expected to be higher with generally light box movement.
