DTN COMMENTS:  A few more bids are now on the table, but they continue to 
be passed. Asking prices are around $238 to $240 in the South but none 
have been found in the North. 

So far this week, a light trade has been reported in the Northern with 
dressed deals marked at mostly $358 to $360, $9 to $11 lower than last 
week's weighted average basis Nebraska. Only a handful of live 
transactions have been reported in the South, at $235, about $3 to $4 
lower than last week's weighted averages. 

Today's slaughter totaled 98,000 head, 12,000 less than last week, and 
20,000 below a year ago. Saturday's kill is estimated at 4,000 head, 
bringing the weekly total to 559,000 head, 14,000 under the previous 
week, and down 57,000 from 2024. Live cattle futures closed mostly lower 
the lone exception was the expiring October live issue (off 217 to up 
132), while feeder contracts ended the day sharply lower (off 210 to 
362). Beef cutouts are expected to close mixed with light to moderate box 
movement.
